Lung Cancer Screening

What does Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) offer?

Lung Cancer Screening lies at the heart of dedication to early cancer detection. Partnering with Alliance Medical, we are able to bring diagnostics closer to patients making screening a more accessible service.

Lung Cancers cause more deaths in the UK than other cancers and can often be asymptomatic. Early detection makes treatment easier and more successful.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible, you have to be:

Between the ages of 55 and 74 and 11 months and a current or ex-smoker.

Referred to the programme by your GP.

Why should I accept a Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) offer?

Early detection is key. Since the screening programme commenced in 2021 and through collaborations with Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and NHS Trusts, over 87,000 Lung Cancer Screenings (LCSs) have been delivered with over 1,000 early-stage cancers identified — 80% of which were detected at stage 1 or 2. This earlier diagnosis significantly improves treatment options and enhances patient survival outcomes.

What to expect

  1. If your GP has referred you, you will receive a letter inviting you to check your eligibility and begin your booking process. If eligible, you’ll receive a link to choose a date and time that suits you.
  2. If you do not self book, a member of the team will contact you by telephone to offer you a screening appointment.
  3. The screening starts with a 15-minute phone call with a specialist nurse. You will be asked about your health and lifestyle, and if you’re eligible, a scan will be booked for you during the call.
  4. If the time offered is not suitable, you will be added to a waiting list and contacted when a new slot is available.
