How do I join?

Choose Xyla as your provider

Go to the link in your initial SMS message from the NHS and select Xyla as your provider. Confirm your
details and choose Xyla as your provider. You’ll be asked for some basic information like your date of birth and health details.

Once you’ve signed up with us, you’ll get access to your personalized 12-week programme.

Frequently asked questions

How was I referred to the programme?

There are a few ways you might have been referred to the NHS Digital Weight Management Programme: 

  • Through your GP or primary care team 
  • As an NHS staff member (self-referral) 
  • Via your local pharmacy 
  • Through an MSK specialist pathway 
  • Elective care pathway

Do I need a smartphone?

The programme is delivered through our easy-to-use app, Xyla Wellbeing, so you’ll need:  

  • A smartphone or tablet running iOS 13.4 or later (Apple) or Android 10 or later 
  • Internet access or enough mobile data to download resources and use the app 
What level of digital skill do I need?

Don’t worry – we’ve kept things simple! If you can use apps to book appointments, read information and enter basic details, you’ll be fine. Plus, our friendly Application Support Team is here to help you get started and we’ve got plenty of step-by-step guides if you need them. 

How often do I need to weigh myself?

You’ll weigh yourself once a week and log it in your health tracker. This helps you see your progress and celebrate your wins! Try to weigh in at the same time and day each week. 

Tip: If you don’t have scales at home, you could borrow some from a friend or family member, or use scales at your GP surgery, local pharmacy, or leisure centre. 

What if I’m away or on holiday during the programme?

We still need an updated weight each week for safety reasons. If you can’t take your scales with you, then ask to weigh yourself at a local pharmacy, hotel or gym. 

If you really can’t weigh in while away, log your most recent weight each week until you return, then update your tracker with an accurate reading. 

What do people who’ve completed the programme say?

I want to start but now isn’t a good time – what are my options?

You have: 

  • 42 days from referral to choose your provider 
  • Another 42 days to start your programme after choosing us 

Your 12-week programme starts when you register and can’t be paused or restarted (except in very rare cases). So, make sure the timing works for you. If you need to skip a week or two, that’s okay – just keep logging your weight and catch up on modules later. 

Is the programme really free?

Yes! If you’re referred by your GP, pharmacy, or eligible NHS pathway, it’s completely free. 

Can I join if I don’t have diabetes or high blood pressure?

The programme is designed for adults who: 

  • Are aged 18 or over 
  • Have a BMI of 30 or above (or 27.5 for people from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds) 
  • And have a diagnosis of high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, or both 

If you don’t meet these criteria, check your local weight management services for alternative support.
