Joining your session on Microsoft Teams

What is Microsoft Teams?

Teams is a programme that allows us to talk to you and you to talk to us. There is a video option or audio only option so it’s your choice whether you want to be seen or not.

Is there any cost for attending the Teams session?

The Teams App is free from your App Store.  A internet connection is required –  check with your internet provider if any questions around data caps or charges etc.

How can I participate during the Teams session?

There are a number of ways to participate during a teams session.  These include:

    • Hand Raise’ prompting the coach that you have a question

    • ‘Conversation’ – write any questions in here and the Health Coach will come back to them

    • Asking questions – remember to take your Mic off Mute – there will be lots of opportunities for questions during the session
What do I need for the session?

Be prepared by sitting in a comfortable spot with a drink on hand.  Paper and a pen is helpful for any notes you would like to make throughout.

In addition you will have been given access to a downloadable Handbook – you can save this and use during your lifestyle change journey.

Where is my Service ID?

This can be found at the top of your confirmation email for your session and is personal to you.

What will I see in this Teams Session?

Your Health Coach be sharing a number of informative slides. If you are joining using a Smart Phone, we recommend turning it Landscape so you can see the slides better.

Smartphone or tablet

The below steps will help if you are using a smart phone or smart device. smart phones/tablets includes Apple iPhone, iPad, Samsung mobiles and many other mobile devices.

Please note; an internet connection is required to enter your Teams session therefore your Wi-Fi or mobile data will need to be turned on –  check with your internet provider if you have any questions around data caps or charges etc. 

1. Before you start the session – you will need to download the Microsoft Teams App.

  1. Click on the link above. You will be taken to the app store.
  2. Click on ‘Install’ and this will add the Microsoft Teams app to your smart phone/tablet. 
  3. Once it’s installed, you will be asked to sign in or sign up, you do not need to do this.  When you are ready to join your session, you can join as a guest.  

2. Getting started

Using your smartphone/tabet open the text message or email that we sent you.  This will have your session details and a helpful link which will bring you to your NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme group.

Please make a note of your Service User ID as you will need this for your group session.  This can be located at the top of your email confirmation.  

3. Ready to join the session

  • Click on the link in your text message or email and this will open Teams
  • On the screen you will be asked ‘How would you like to join?’.  Click on ‘Join as a Guest’.
  • You will be asked to type in your name –  please type in your Service User ID and your First Name and Surname Initial
  • You may be prompted to allow Teams to record audio or your microphone.  Please allow this.
  • You will now be taken into Teams for your Diabetes Prevention Session – Enjoy!

Laptop or desktop

The below steps will support you if you are using a laptop or desktop computer.

Please note; an internet connection is required to enter your Teams session therefore your Wi-Fi or internet will need to be turned on –  check with your internet provider if you have any questions around data caps/charges etc.

1. Getting started

To get you started, open the email from us on your laptop or desktop computer. This will have your session details and a helpful link which will bring you to your NHS Diabetes Prevention group.

Please make a note of your Service User ID as you will need this for your group session.  This can be located at the top of your email confirmation.  

 2. Before you start the session

  • Open the email on your laptop/desktop computer and click on the link for your NHS Diabetes Prevention Teams session. 
  • A new page will open in your browser and you will be given a number of options, select ‘Continue in this browser;’ or ‘Join on the web instead.
  • You are now ready to join the session
  • You will be asked to type in your name –  please type in your Service user ID and your first name and surname initial. Please be aware that the name you enter will be visible to others in the group. 
  • In addition you can turn your web camera off/on by using the toggle before entering the group session.

  • When you ready click on ‘Join now’.  You may be prompted to allow Teams to record audio or your microphone.  Please allow this.
  • You will now be taken into Teams for your Diabetes Prevention Session – Enjoy!

Tip: If you do drop out of the session don’t worry  – just click on ‘Rejoin’
