  • Working Days: Saturdays & Sundays & 2 midweek days

Job Summary:

Pre-Assessment Nurse

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conducting Pre-Operative Assessments:
  • Collaborate with Senior Decision Leaders (SDL) to complete pre-operative assessments (POA) for patients. have already flagged that’s not what SDL means for us –
  • Collect detailed medical histories, assess clinical observations, and identify potential risks for surgery.
  • Ensure assessments align with surgical specialties such as ENT, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Urology.
  1. Supporting Surgical Pathways:
  • Review patients scheduled for ENT, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Urology procedures to ensure they are medically optimized.
  • Identify and manage conditions requiring further investigations or specialist input prior to surgery.
  • Escalate any findings that might impact surgical plans to appropriate healthcare providers.
  1. Diagnostic Testing and Coordination:
  • Conduct and coordinate necessary diagnostic tests, including blood work, ECGs, and swabs.
  • Ensure test results are available for review, recorded accurately, and communicated to the surgical team.
  1. Patient Education and Preparation:
  • Provide patients with clear instructions regarding surgical preparation, such as fasting, medication adjustments, and day-of-surgery protocols.
  • Offer guidance tailored to the specific requirements of ENT, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Urology procedures.
  1. Documentation and Compliance:
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, test results, and care plans.
  • Ensure compliance with national guidelines, hospital policies, and infection control standards.

 

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse qualification with current NMC registration.

Skills and Experience:

  • Pre assessment
  • Familiarity with ENT, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, or Urology pathways.
  • Proficiency in performing and interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Strong communication and patient education skills.

Environment:

  • Pre Assessment.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to optimize surgical outcomes.

This role is integral to ensuring patient safety, preparedness, and positive surgical outcomes across multiple specialties.
