Hours: Monday to Friday (part-time considered)

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking two experienced Paediatric Dietitians to join a busy service in the West Midlands. This is an excellent opportunity to work within an acute hospital setting, with potential involvement in community-based work for candidates who are able to drive.

The role is based at Walsall Hospital, with an immediate start available (subject to compliance checks and availability). Due to service demand, there is a strong likelihood of contract extension.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assess children’s nutritional status using growth charts, dietary intake, and medical history
  • Identify feeding difficulties, allergies, intolerances, and nutrient deficiencies
  • Develop and implement tailored nutrition and meal plans
  • Support the management of conditions such as diabetes, obesity, gastrointestinal disorders, and failure to thrive
  • Provide education and practical guidance to parents and caregivers
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Support infant feeding (breastfeeding, formula feeding, and weaning)
  • Manage specialist nutrition interventions, including tube feeding where required
  • Monitor and review patient progress, adjusting plans as necessary
  • Promote healthy eating through clinics, schools, and community programmes
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in line with professional standards
  • Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain patient records, clinical notes, and reports
  • Manage appointments, referrals, and clinic schedules
  • Communicate with healthcare professionals via letters and email
  • Monitor caseloads and contribute to audits and service improvements
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, data protection, and clinical guidelines
  • Process documentation for supplements and feeding equipment
  • Prepare patient information and document MDT meetings

Additional Information

  • Acute-based role with potential for community work
  • Driving licence desirable for community involvement
Weekend work may be available

Requirements

Essential

  • Qualified Dietitian with paediatric experience
  • HCPC registration
  • Strong communication and team-working skills
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload effectively
  • Minimum of 2–3 years post-registration experience, including recent paediatric dietetics experience
  • Experience working in acute paediatric settings, including complex caseload management
  • Proven ability to assess and manage a range of paediatric conditions (e.g., allergy, gastrointestinal conditions, diabetes
  • Experience of enteral feeding (NG/PEG) and nutritional support planning
  • Strong knowledge of infant feeding, weaning, and early years nutrition
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team and paediatric referral pathways
  • Ability to recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns and risk
  • Excellent communication skills when working with children, families, and carers
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload, prioritise effectively, and work autonomously

Desirable

  • Experience in community paediatrics or outreach clinics
  • Experience delivering group education sessions or public health programmes
  • Knowledge of allergy services, ARFID, or specialist feeding pathways
  • Experience supporting service development, audits, or quality improvement
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (if Community)

Professional Expectations

  • Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) and clinical competence
  • Participate in clinical supervision, audit, and governance activities
  • Work within scope of practice and uphold HCPC standards of conduct and practice
