How our referral process works

Complete a referral on behalf of your patient

Step 1. Refer a child or young person to Xyla

Once eligibility has been confirmed, please complete a Right to Choose referral for the child or young person using one of the forms provided above.

⚠️ Important: Xyla is currently accepting referrals for children and young people aged 7-17 who are registered with a GP in Herefordshire and Worcestershire only. Referrals received outside of this area cannot be processed at this time.

Step 2. Referral confirmation

Once Xyla receives your patient’s referral, you’ll receive an email confirmation to let you know we’ve received it. The child or young person’s parent or carer will then be contacted directly with information about next steps.

Step 3. Full diagnostic assessment in line with NICE guidance

The child or young person and their parent or carer will be guided through a comprehensive online ADHD assessment conducted by Xyla’s specialist clinical team. The assessment process follows NICE guidance and includes a detailed clinical evaluation to support an accurate diagnostic outcome.

Important information about NHS Right to Choose

As a responsible healthcare provider, we cannot accept patients who do not meet our suitability criteria. Your patients won’t be able to choose Xyla if:

  • They are receiving urgent or emergency care.
  • They are already getting treatment for the condition you’re being referred for.
  • They are in prison, temporarily released from prison, or in other specific settings (like a court, secure children’s home, secure training centre, immigration removal centre, or a young offender’s institution).
  • They are held in a hospital under the Mental Health Act 1983.
  • They are a serving member of the armed forces (but your family members in England have the same rights as other residents).

If any of these apply to a patient you are referring, they will not be able to directly choose Xyla as your provider at this time.

If your patients need more information on the Right to Choose pathway and how it benefits them, please direct them to our dedicated information page for patients.
